The New Jerusalem is the holy city God brings down into the renewed creation as His permanent dwelling with His redeemed people, where curse, death, and exile are gone and life is received openly and for ever through the Lamb.
John sees the holy city coming down from God, and hears the great promise: the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them. There is no temple there, for the Lord God and the Lamb are its temple; the river of life flows from the throne, and the Tree of Life stands within, no longer guarded but freely given. It is Eden expanded and secured — God with His people, life received from Him for ever. Fuller eschatological questions belong to a later cluster.
