Death is the condition and dominion of human life alienated from God — expressed in corruption, mortality, bodily dissolution, and judgment — and more than mere biological cessation.
In Scripture, death is separation before it is the stopping of the heart. Adam’s rebellion brought humanity under its reign: alienation from God now, the body’s return to dust, and judgment beyond. This is why a person can be alive and yet dead in trespasses and sins.
But death is a defeated enemy. Christ has passed through it and broken its dominion, and for those in Him even bodily death cannot sever them from His life. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
