Union with Christ is the goal of salvation: the Spirit joins the believer to the risen Son so that Christ’s life becomes his, and every saving blessing is his in Christ.
Salvation is not a set of benefits handed out at a distance; it is being joined to a Person. When the Spirit unites the believing sinner to Christ, His death, resurrection, standing, and inheritance become the believer’s own — forgiveness, justification, adoption, and the indwelling Spirit are all dimensions of sharing His life.
Like a branch in the vine, the believer lives by abiding in Him; his new life remains received life, and his future is secure because it belongs to the One who has already passed through death. Every other saving word is ordered toward, grounded in, or flows from this union.
