Rebellion is the willful rejection of God's rightful authority in pursuit of autonomy from Him.
Rebellion is more than the commission of sinful acts; it is the inward disposition that refuses God's rule and seeks to establish one's own. It entered human history through Adam's disobedience and has marked every generation since, appearing wherever people reject God's truth, resist His authority, or attempt to define good and evil for themselves. The desire for autonomy lies at the heart of rebellion, whether expressed openly through defiance or quietly through self-rule. The gospel answers rebellion by reconciling sinners to God and transforming them into willing citizens of His kingdom who joyfully submit to the lordship of Jesus Christ.
