Acceptance is God’s welcome of believers in Jesus Christ; because they stand in the Son He loves, the Father receives them — not because they have earned a place, but because Christ has brought them near.
The words spoken over Jesus at His baptism, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased,” become, in a manner, the Father’s word over all who are in Him. The believer’s acceptance does not rise and fall with his performance; it rests on Christ, in whom he is made accepted. This is the ground of peace: to be received by God on the merits of another.
