Freedom is the life God gives those in Christ to live as they were made to live — not independence from God, but release from sin, self-rule, condemnation, and death so they may willingly love and obey Him.
The world calls autonomy freedom, but self-rule is bondage: the servant of sin cannot free himself. True freedom is being loosed from that slavery to serve God gladly — if the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
It is not license to sin but liberty from it; not the absence of a master, but the exchange of a cruel one for the rightful and good One.
