Drawing

Drawing is God’s gracious action by which He brings a person toward Christ; it is real and necessary, and it can be resisted.

The Father draws people to the Son — awakening, inclining, and moving them toward the gospel — and no one comes to Christ unless he is drawn. This drawing may begin before a person has fully heard the gospel, and it is genuinely resistible: Scripture speaks of those who would not be gathered.

Drawing is not yet the new birth. It is God’s gracious approach that leads a person toward the saving encounter, where the sinner responds in faith and the Spirit gives life.

See in Scripture: John 6:44; John 12:32; Jeremiah 31:3; Hosea 11:4; Acts 16:14
